‘Super/Man’ Trailer: Christopher Reeve Doc Powerfully Captures the Late Actor’s Superhero Stardom and Life After His Near-Fatal Accident

Warner Bros. has unveiled the official trailer for “Super/Man,” a powerful documentary about the life of Christopher Reeve.

Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” chronicles Reeve’s iconic rise to fame as Superman and his courageous battle to find a cure for spinal cord injuries after becoming a quadriplegic due to a horse riding accident. The documentary features personal archive material, with Reeve’s family deeply involved in its creation.

Matthew Reeve, Christopher’s son, expressed his gratitude for the wealth of footage available. “It is a gift. We’re so lucky,” he told Variety. “We not only have his films but also a collection of home movies and rare interviews, like an Australian interview from 1977 that I hadn’t seen before. It was pretty cool to uncover all that material.”

Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised “Super/Man” after its Sundance Film Festival premiere in January, calling it a “moving, wrenching, compellingly well-made documentary.” He noted, “We go into ‘Super/Man’ knowing Reeve’s story, but the documentary fills in his life with absorbing richness.”

“Super/Man” will screen in select theaters starting September 21, with an encore presentation on Reeve’s birthday, September 25. A wider theatrical release has not yet been announced.
