Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is currently in Venice, Italy, attending the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale. His presence at this prestigious art event is part of his role as
Commissioner of the Nigerian Pavilion, which is organized in collaboration with the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA). The pavilion showcases the “Nigeria Imaginary” exhibition, which features works from eight prominent Nigerian artists, emphasizing the rich potential of contemporary Nigerian art and reflecting the nation’s challenges and aspirations.
Obaseki expressed his pride in how Nigerian artists are represented on the global stage and emphasized the importance of fostering hope through art during Nigeria’s economic difficulties. He also discussed the future plans for MOWAA and his aspiration for the pavilion’s exhibition to return to Nigeria after an international tour.
This event is part of the governor’s ongoing commitment to promoting arts and culture in Nigeria, especially through MOWAA, which he sees as a key legacy project as he nears the end of his tenure as governor.
