Nicole Kidman erotic thriller Babygirl 2024
Nicole Kidman, 57, has revealed that she felt incredibly vulnerable while filming some of the most intimate scenes of her career for the erotic thriller Babygirl. The actress admitted that her hands were shaking with nerves as she prepared for the film’s global premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
In Babygirl, Kidman portrays a high-powered New York CEO who embarks on a risky affair with her much younger intern, played by rising British star Harris Dickinson. The film dives deep into themes of desire, power, and sexual exploration, depicting scenes of masturbation and a complex submissive/dominant relationship.
Reflecting on the challenges of filming these scenes, Kidman shared that an intimacy coordinator and a closed set were essential in creating a safe environment. “This film is about much more than just sex—it’s about desire, inner thoughts, secrets, marriage, truth, power, and consent,” she explained. “It’s a liberating story told through a woman’s gaze, which made the experience unique and freeing.”
Despite the supportive environment, Kidman confessed that she still felt exposed and frightened at the thought of sharing the film with the world. “The process was delicate, intimate, and very deep, but the vulnerability of bringing it to an audience is overwhelming,” she said.
The film marks Kidman’s most daring role since her iconic performance in Eyes Wide Shut 25 years ago. She expressed her anxiety about the racy scenes, admitting that Babygirl is the most exposing film of her career. “It’s like, golly, I’m doing this, and now it’s going to be seen by the world. That’s a very weird feeling,” she confessed.
Babygirl has already sparked conversations for its bold portrayal of female desire, which, unlike in past erotic thrillers, doesn’t destroy the character’s career or family life. Kidman remains a powerful figure both professionally and personally by the film’s conclusion.
The actress’s glamorous appearance at the Venice Film Festival, where she wore a black midi dress with a plunging neckline, contrasted sharply with the raw emotion she brought to her role. She admitted to Vanity Fair that she’s unsure if she has the bravery to watch the movie in its entirety on the big screen.
Babygirl is set to challenge and captivate audiences with its taboo-breaking narrative and Kidman’s fearless performance.
